Its hygroscopic properties regulate the humidity in the terrarium in a natural way by absorbing moisture and slowly releasing it again. The unique size and shape of the bark particles stimulates natural burrowing behavior and discourages crickets from hiding in the substrate. The fir bark is extensively tumbled to smooth the bark pieces and remove dust, and then heat treated to reduce bacterial contamination.

To increase the humidity in well-ventilated terrariums or those with very high humidity requirements, place a Exo Terra terrarium floor heater under the terrarium.
